However, I was in my local 'big box' store (Lowe's) last night and saw they had this one priced at $99.99, about $20 less than anywhere else so, much as I love Amazon, I bit the bullet and bought one there and then. I posted this info in case there are others here doing their pre-purchase research. (Check with your local store because this metal model isn't on their Website.) First impressions: Being metal it obviously weighs more, and feels far more solidly built, than any of the plastic reel boxes I've come across before. I think it's far more attractive than all those plastic ones too. In fact, the Ames' style and color echoes that of our patio furniture, which is a bonus since it will be living out there as well. I noted in the instructions it has a two year warranty which allows you to return it to the store you purchased it from if something goes wrong - another reason to buy locally, if possible. There's a short list of replacement part numbers included - The crank handle (2517101), its screw (2517102), and the leader hose (2517103). I hope that's not an indication that the one unhappy reviewer's broken handle wasn't a fluke... Their CS Dept tel # 1-800-393-1846, in case you need it sometime. OK, that's all I can offer without trying the thing. Will return to offer a proper 'user' review of its function soon and will change the star rating if necessary then. Mid July: It's been a great success so far! It looks great in the corner of the patio, and was quick & easy to assemble, although getting the metal hose connector nozzle thing properly seated in the hole on the left side of the box took two tries - the first attempt I hadn't pushed it in far enough so it leaked quite badly, which was a bit worrying. I also had to spray the thread of the handle's screw with WD40 before it would screw in properly. I also took the precaution of thoroughly wrapping the threads of the various connections with plenty of plumber's tape, just in case, and so far there have been no leaks at all. I've got a 100ft long 'NeverKink commercial grade' hose on this reel, and if I turn on the water before unwinding the hose, the extra weight of the water inside helps prevent the box from moving around. To rewind, I turn off the water, and release the pressure, then lean on the box with my spare hand or knee, which helps make rewinding the hose quick and easy, and it tracks evenly onto the reel every time. Keeping the hose more or less at right angles to the front of the box while pulling out/rewinding keeps it operating smoothly in both directions. If I had to find something to nit pick about, it does moan and groan a little bit when you're winding/unwinding, and some parts of the actual reel are plastic, which may become an issue - we all know plastic deteriorates over time, specially in harsh weather - but so far so good - I'm very pleased. I'll try to remember to update this again next year...
