Beware : Suncast RSW125D Mocha Wicker 125-Foot Capacity Touch and Go Hose Reel

This hose reel was easy to set up and connect, etc. And worked very well when reeling in my 100+ feet of hose and very well when pulling the hose out for use - then the plastic piece that moves back and forth to ensure the hose winds evenly came loose and made it very difficult to get the hose back out of the box. This piece is vital to the reel and is not even fastened in place. It simply fits over the other plastic piece which means that after a few weeks of use (about a month) it had flexed enough so that it wouldn't stay in place. It would come off and I would snap it back on and then it would come off again. I took it back to the store. I don't think it was a fluke with the one I bought - just not a good design. If they could frame out a way to make it more durable I would buy it again. It might work good if you only had 50 or 75 feet of hose so that the reel didn't have to work so hard.

That won't the case with this reel. I just bought the 2009 model but still have a forerunner (about 12 years old) that despite heavy usage looks and works like it's new. From what I can see they've only improved the develop and materials, which, given that the older reel was (and remains) great, is an impressive feat. literally it's a bit on costly side, but not being annoyed by cheap reels makes it well worth it. Obviously lots of care and notion went into the design. Unlike many products, it'll put a smile on your face.

Not finding one (as it's the end of the season), I resorted to buying something that looked similar in a beloved "box store". After the first 3 assembly steps, I realized that what I had purchased was basically junk. I promptly returned it to the store (partially assembled)and proceeded with an on-line search. Lo and behold, there was the Hose King on Amazon at a price that was not much greater than what I had paid for a cheap facimile. The long and short...this is a 200 foot capaciy reel that de facto carries its stated load. It's made of rugged components, is relatively easy to assemble (if you're good at following instructions), and is sensibly disigned to mount to 16 inch on center studs. Mine mounts to a foundation wall, requiring masonry screws. Because the thing is capability engineered and manufactured, it fit perfectly on the mounts for my previous Hose King Reel (which was probably 10 years old and would still be nearby if my painter hadn't smashed it in a freak accident). Anyway, you can't go wrong with this product. I'm determined it's the best you'll find of its type. One more note....due to some kind of containers error at the factory, the box was short one part while containing a double of another. I contacted the manufacturer directly and the change part was sent at no charge. I received it within a few days. buyer service at Ames was excellent.
